Series 8
Archival Ink on Paper
11 works
Each: 36” x 24” (91.44 cm x 60.96 cm) Unframed
This series consists of 11 new, kite shaped works that together represent an infinite loop of the color spectrum. The works are each 91.44 cm x 60.96 cm and incorporate thousands of hand-drawn lines in 11 colors of archival ink on paper. By continually advancing the arrangement of the color spectrum by one degree, each artwork is a progression from the piece before it and a precursor to the piece that follows it.
The intention for the works in this series was to create broad color fields that did not hinge on a unified center or edge as in previous works. To create this effect, the symmetry is two-fold instead of four fold, and the actual mathematical anchor points for the start and end of each line were set beyond the drawn borders of the artwork. For this reason, the viewer never sees the lines or colors meet in constant definitive points as they might expect, but instead just a type of emergent iridescence from the polychromatic layering.
