Series 4 was made specifically for the 2018 Sharjah Islamic Arts Festival, to correspond to that year’s theme of “Horizon”. The work echoes both the literal and metaphorical meanings of the theme, by presenting the viewer with a long, unbroken, horizontal line of layered, intricate, hand-drawn geometries. The work appears as a clean horizon in the distance, but closer inspection reveals the ultra-complex underpinnings beneath the simplicity, to evoke a sense of wonder and a contemplation of the unknown.

The work is made up of 64 individually hand-drawn tiles, each measuring 10 cm x 10 cm. The pieces are placed side-by-side in one horizontal row to form a seamless horizon of geometry that measures a total of 6.5 metres wide (and 10 cm high). The work is composed of over 125,000 lines but remains perfectly symmetrical in all directions, just as the horizon itself represents a meeting point of universal symmetries.
