This piece was commissioned for the group exhibition, “Gateway: Fragments, Yesterday & Today”, curated by Paolo Colombo – exploring the interaction between contemporary art and ancient artifacts. I created this piece as an attempt to channel the infinite unseen fields from which common, unifying patterns in the art of early humans may have emerged. Concentric circles, waveforms and floral/stellar rosettes consistently appear in the markings, paintings and visual traditions of our ancestors and seem intended to record or communicate timeless universal truths and mechanisms. Through an interpreted recreation of these fundamental geometric shapes - rendered through intense repetition of thousands of hand-drawn ink lines on paper – I sought an alignment with ancient artisans across the generations.
