Archival Ink on Paper
54 cm x 54 cm
Frieze London
The Third Line
London, UK, 2019
This piece builds on the evolving geometric language that I had been employing since the "1, 2, 3" solo exhibition, pushing further into representations of color, texture and pattern. I wanted to create a piece that felt warm and familiar, but had areas of unconventional and indescribable shapes and hues. To achieve this, I used an intense layering of fractal-like, self-similar "tiles" at different scales - creating complex and uncommon combinations amidst the rhythmic, multi-level symmetry. This piece uses only 4 colors of archival pigment ink - Orange, Red, Royal Blue and Navy Blue, with the parallel lines moving at 18 different angles.
